At the age of 24, Shawon Mahmud has already made significant strides in science communication. Shawon was born in Faridpur, Bangladesh, and grew up in Dhaka.

While studying in his second year of Physics at Jahangirnagar University, Shawon founded BigyanPriyo. During his tertiary education, he experienced a lack of adequate resources, which he noticed was a common issue for about 90% of science students. Many students lose interest in pursuing pure science after their higher secondary exams due to misconceptions, lack of awareness, and inadequate access to resources. To address these challenges, Shawon established BigyanPriyo.

Professionally, Shawon is a graphic designer. Driven by the needs of BigyanPriyo, he also learned advanced web design and video editing. Through his efforts in content creation, he transformed BigyanPriyo into a leading beacon of science education in the country.

In 2021, BigyanPriyo suffered a devastating cyber-attack that wiped out its Facebook page, group, website, and YouTube channel, along with all its online presence. However, Shawon resiliently rebuilt BigyanPriyo with his own hands, turning it into the largest Bengali science network in the world.
